State Attorney General Jeff Jackson and other state attorneys general are suing to stop the U.S. Postal Service from controlling who receives absentee ballots.
The lawsuit stems from President Donald Trump’s executive order that would have the US Postal Service block delivery of some absentee ballots.

NASA astronaut and Artemis II Mission Specialist Christina Koch was honored Wednesday with the Order of the Tar Heel, the highest award bestowed by the North Carolina Commissioner of Labor. Koch, a Jacksonville native and N.C. State University graduate, became the first woman to travel beyond low Earth orbit, and with her crew broke the record for the farthest distance humans have ever traveled in space.

Attorney General Jeff Jackson announced Wednesday that Meta, the owner of Instagram and Facebook, will pay North Carolina up to $645 million and make major safety upgrades in a landmark case involving 47 states. Meta will pay unto $17.1 billion to the states in the second-largest state consumer protection settlement in history.
“My wife and I have three kids. We know how hard it is to argue with them about screen time,” Jackson said.”Part of the reason that it’s so hard is because parents are up against technology that has been engineered specifically to capture and hold their child’s attention.”

This week, Gov. Josh Stein announced federal awards of more than $69 million to bring affordable rental housing to Western North Carolina. In 2024, the region lost thousands of rentals in the wake of Hurricane Helene.
